Hilmi Abou-Saleh

I'm a senior software engineer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. I currently work at Block on Cash App's Trust team, focusing on identity and access: login, signup, accounts, and the infrastructure that helps those systems work across Block.

My background spans product and platform work at Block and Amazon, along with earlier roles in energy and industrial software. I do my best work where product feel, reliability, and maintainability all matter at the same time.

I'm a full-stack engineer who leans backend professionally, especially with Kotlin and Java, followed by TypeScript and the React/Next.js stack. I'm also comfortable owning infrastructure end to end across AWS, Google Cloud, and other providers, with extensive experience using CDK.

Outside work, I spend an unreasonable amount of time on D&D, climbing, skiing, and side projects. I'm also building Palate a cooking app for home cooks who want to stop scrolling.

This site is where I keep a small archive of writing on engineering, career changes, and whatever else survives first draft.

I'm open to remote staff-level roles, and I'm willing to relocate for the right opportunity.
